    Paris is unquestionably one of the world’s most beautiful cities. Its image as a romantic city has helped to make it the world’s favorite tourist destination. Its galleries, cabarets, restaurants and riverside walks have always been the stuff of dreams. But there’s another and completely different Paris.

Paris is also where many multinationals locate their head offices:
- Europe's biggest concentration, (number 2 worldwide after Tokyo), of the world's top 500 companies, ahead of London, New York and Chicago (source: Fortune Magazine, 2006)
- The primary location for foreign businesses, after Greater London (Ernst & Young, 2006). Together, these companies employ over 150,000 people.

Centres of excellence

Paris is developing 4 key sectors: health, digital, design and eco-business.
The Paris Technopole
The Paris Innovation site focuses all Paris Technopole's initiatives in promoting innovation and competitiveness. This prestigious centre develops:
- the four sector clusters
- shared tools and services to provide the full support package for the creation of innovative ventures
- networking to bring together researchers and businesses, experts, public authorities and elected representatives.

Education and training

Our solid infrastructure of leading universities (Pierre et Marie Curie, La Sorbonne, Jussieu, Assas, Dauphine, René Descartes) and specialist schools (CNAM, l'ENA, les Mines Paris, Centrale Paris, HEC, the Polytechnique, etc), produces graduates with tremendous potential.

Research

Over 850 laboratories (including the CNRS, the Curie Institute, the Pasteur Institute) employing some 19,000 researchers, including those at the 50 AP-HP sites, (Europe's leading hospital group).

Real estate and land

Paris offers several services to help start up, advise and support young innovative enterprises:
  • 5,870 m2 of incubators: Advancia, Agoranov, Paris Biotech Santé, Paris Innovation-Bourse, Paris Pionnières, Pasteur Biotop, Telecom Paris
  • 13,700m2 of business start-up clusters: Paris Innovation-République, Paris Innovation-Reunion, Paris Innovation-Villette, Paris Innovation-Soleillet, Paris Santé Cochin
  • 42,300m2 of specialist managed premises: Paris Innovation-Biopark, Paris Innovation-Losserand, Paris Innovation-Vauvenargues, the Brulon-Citeaux Business Cluster

That's nearly 62,000m2 of dedicated support for young innovative enterprises.

Transport

Paris has a comprehensive transport infrastructure. The TGV network gives access within just a few hours to 145 French destinations plus Europe's main capital cities.

Environment

Paris is the world's top tourist destination.
The hub of Europe's trade show and trade fair activity, on average Paris hosts 6 million visitors every year. It's the world's number one conference centre: more than 250 national and international conferences are organised here every year.
