Mercateo is an online supply platform intended for businesses, professionals, institutions and associations.
Its objective is to meet all the needs of professionals in non-strategic items, ranging from office supplies, computer equipment, tools and electronics to catering sector items... This German company, founded in Munich in 1999, lists 7.4 million products online in Germany. Its customers include such companies as Deutsche Telekom, RWE, Miele, Osram and more, for which Mercateo can also host catalogues, as well as a large number of SMEs and VSEs, for which this platform represents an efficient supply system.
Operating as a marketplace with numerous suppliers, Mercateo stands out from its competitors thanks to its innovative Best Basket functionality, which performs an instant search among all suppliers to optimise customer baskets while taking prices and delivery charge pooling into account. Its highly powerful search engine promotes fast and easy searching while its sophisticated filtering system helps to find the desired product in mere seconds. Mercateo also gives its customers a opportunity to reduce the number of their suppliers by becoming their one-stop contact, from ordering to billing, and even to customer service.
The French website, www.mercateo.fr, went online in April 2011. When deciding to get established in France, Mercateo chose the Paris Region because of its strategic position. A great amount of our suppliers are located within the Paris Region. As for the others, Paris' central position allows us to move easily across the country. The Paris Region is also the place where all of the trade fairs that we visit regularly to find new partners are concentrated, says Constance Martiny Sondag, Mercateo's Country Manager France and Paris Office Representative. In addition, the Paris Region is where we find most of the major groups that we wish to canvass.
The Paris Region Economic Development Agency has supported Mercateo in its search for premises and has put the company in touch with various experts. We took part in the PREDA International Businesses Forum in November 2011, which was a genuine opportunity to meet with major group representatives in the course of one afternoon. Mercateo succeeded in raising some interest, and there were other meetings following the Forum, explains Constance Martiny Sondag.
