BURGEAP was founded in 1947. What's the brand known for in 2008?
BURGEAP is an engineering consultancy which operates across all the environmental sectors: water, waste, soil and air remediation, renewable energies, energy management, HQE (the High Environmental Quality standard), nuclear decommissioning and public health (120 products in the sector). Our reputation is based on our ability to handle the full spectrum of environmental problems for each client - public or private - and to offer a full range of services, from consultancy through to project management and including training. BURGEAP also specialises in public development aid for developing countries. However, our activities in Africa, which accounted for 75% of our turnover until the 1980s, are now undertaken primarily by local operations. Today the group has 350 employees in France, 300 internationally, and annual turnover of €50 million.
What's your approach to sustainable development?
Through our expertise in its specialist sectors, BURGEAP delivers solutions for sustainable development in both urban and rural environments.
What advantages does your location in Paris Region bring?
It's crucial. We derive the majority of our turnover from this region - which is the leading economic region in France. Nonetheless there's still scope for improvement in terms of the public structures in the environment sector. This is why BURGEAP is participating in a general interest group, along with Paris Region Economic Development Agency, ARENE (the Regional Agency for the Environment and New Energies), the Advancity competitiveness cluster and Paris Développement.
