The July 26, 2010
The Gat Rooms chain just reached a new stage in its international expansion by opening the Gat Folies Hotel in the very heart of Paris. The Serra Family’s new venue with its 38 guest rooms is located just facing the mythical Folies Bergères building, close to the Opera and the Galeries Lafayette department store, in one of the best districts in the French capital city.
With the opening of Gat Folies, the Gat Rooms chain takes another step in increasing its presence throughout major European cities, still maintaining both of its distinctive traits: exceptional location and rates affordable to all, whether independent travellers or businessmen.
As is the case with other Gat Rooms labelled venues, the Gat Folies Hotel will be playing the sleep smart card on the basis of the superb results seen in Barcelona and in Lisbon, where the Gat Rossio Hotel became the tenth-ranking hotel in Portugal in terms of occupancy, barely six months after its opening.
Sleep smart is about five-star beds and standard business amenities (Spotify in every room, WiFi, iHome, breakfast and more) at an unprecedented rate within the French capital, not only in its own competition segment but also as compared to upscale hotels.
According to Bibiana Serra, who manages the hotel chain with her brother Alex, Gat Folies represents a change in the new urban hotel model promoted by Gat Rooms. Among the main novelties, we should cite the opening of a street-side restaurant aiming at extending the Gat Rooms spirit, meaning up-to-date, bold and affordable. Enter Gat Kitchen, a new creative cuisine concept resulting from the partnership between Gat Rooms and Chefs Paula Casanovas and Flip Planas, known for launching a number of highly prestigious projects that won them a Michelin star. As of now, Gat Kitchen's objective will be to produce small rations, always using upscale products, where the harmony of aromas, flavours and textures offers up a sprightly, dynamic menu highlighting some of the symbolic fare in Mediterranean cuisine.
Another significant innovation is Gat Attack, a team including Silvia Prada and Jordi Soto, whose task is to programme cultural initiatives inside the hotel, such as exhibitions by up-and-coming artists, DJ sessions or live concerts. Moreover, Gat Attack will be customising music at Gat Folies so its guests may use Spotify to enjoy the latest styles and bands.
Through those initiatives and many others, Gat Rooms is intent on making every traveller's stay an unforgettable experience. To that end, and on top of events being held at the hotel, Gat Rooms will inform its guests about the main events (cultural, leisure and business) taking place in the French capital and provide personal advice, whatever the reason for their stay.
With this new acquisition, implying a €9m investment, the Gat Rooms chain holds fast to its objective of getting established within the major European capitals, pending the imminent opening in Berlin of the Gat Point Charlie Hotel, tagged to become the chain's new flagship venue by virtue of its size (140 guest rooms) and investment.
The Paris Region Economic Development Agency has helped the Gat Rooms hotel chain in getting established, providing support in recruitment via the Pôle Emploi / French Job Centre's Hotel Department (2 confirmed hires), supplying information about payroll and taxes, arranging contacts with a lawyer and tax specialist, helping the hotel manager obtain aid in language lessons from the City of Paris, and assisting in the communication campaign promoting the opening.
