The Paris Region - a leader in conventions

The May 31, 2012

Paris and all of the Paris Region hit a new record in 2011 with 792,000 convention attendees (up 18% in one year) and 996 events*.

This represents an average of 83 conventions per month, meaning 3 events taking place every day. Last year there were 31 newcomer events to choose the French capital for their launch, attracted by the city's dynamism, in particular the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) which gathered a total of over 33,000 attendees. The Paris Region provided no less than 206 venues - convention centres, science facilities, hotels with meeting rooms - to host the convention attendees. Among those, we can mention the Porte de Versailles Exhibition Centre, the Paris Palais des Congrès, and the CNIT located in La Défense business district.

The convention business is a key segment in the business meetings and events sector for the Paris Region. Representing 1.3 million night stays in 2011, convention attendees made up 8% of the sector's business.
Regarding conventions that are organised by international bodies and gathering over 50 people, Paris comes second in ICCA rankings (International Congress and Convention Association) behind Vienna, and before London and Barcelona.
