The Paris Region Economic Development Agency and the General Council of the Yvelines have jointly decided to take part in the ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems) World Congress, a genuine showcase for the sector’s worldwide innovations.
PREDA has decided on asserting presence at the event by having a booth in the French Pavilion, managed by the ITS France Association.
We invited INRIA science adviser Michel Parent to join us on this mission, so we could have the benefit of his expertise and his network. Michel Parent (see the attached biography) is a world-acknowledged expert in the field of vehicle automation. He also headed an INRIA spinoff for several years, which gave him some insight into the business aspect. We have worked with him on targeting and advocacy, as well as arranging meetings at the congress (more than 20) and their follow-up.
On that occasion, a joint interview was videotaped. In it, Michel Parent (PhD, CyberCars) and Jean-Marc Blosseville (Deputy Director of the IFSTTAR Versailles Centre) discussed ITS developments worldwide, but especially in the Paris Region, the cradle of the sector's R&D. In addition, a mini website devoted to the event was set up, exclusively in English.
ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems) describes the applications of new information and communication technology to the field of people and goods transportation.
Among those applications, we can mention:
We have recently helped several foreign companies in the ITS sector to get established in the Paris Region. Among them were Transport Simulation Systems, a Spanish SME specialised in traffic modelling, and Key Driving Competences, a Belgian SME specialised in eco-driving. This is a sector where innovation is a key factor on a scientific level as well as in business models.
