Unemployment rate
4th quarter 2009: 8.4%
The slower rise in unemployment in the Paris Region recorded in the 3rd quarter of 2009 did not continue in the 4th quarter.
The unemployment rate in the Paris Region rose by an average of half a point in the last three months of the year (compared with +0.2 of a point between the 2nd and 3rd quarters).
In spite of this, the unemployment rate in the Paris Region did not reach the levels recorded in 2004-2005 (as much as 8.9% in the 4th quarter of 2004), while in metropolitan France as a whole unemployment had already surpassed the peak reached in that period (9.1% in the 4th quarter of 2005) and was henceforth comparable to its levels of 10 years ago (9.5% in the 4th quarter of 2009).
