Jobless rate

8.3%

The sluggishness of the downward momentum that began in late 2009 (only down 0.4 points over six quarters) brought fears of a possible new climb in the Paris Region jobless rate.

The expected climb did occur during the third quarter 2011. As a result, the jobless rate in the Paris Region regained the 0.2 points it had lost during the first half, reaching 8.3%. In addition, this progression in the Paris Region proved to be comparable to that witnessed throughout the country, since the jobless rate for France also started climbing (up 0.2 points to 9.3%). Both rates are now standing at respectively 1.8 points and 2.1 points above their low point from early 2008. As for the departments, all of them have contributed to this climb in the Paris Region jobless rate, with the exception of Val-de-Marne (unchanged) and Seine-et-Marne (down 0.1 points).
