2nd quarter 2010: 37,777 business sart-ups
A total of 37,777 new businesses were set up in Paris Region during the second quarter of 2010, once again almost a quarter of all start-ups registered in France (24%).
Although this number largely comprised new businesses created under France's small business owner status (statut d'auto-entrepreneur), which accounted for 56% of start-ups in Paris Region, traditional new businesses also performed well and posted a year-on-year increase for the first time since the first quarter of 2008: +4.5% versus the second quarter of 2009. However, they are still 16.7% below second quarter 2008 levels.
Changes observed nationally are fairly similar to those seen in Paris Region, although the total number of start-ups for the whole of France increased only slightly (+2.1% over one year) compared with Paris Region (+10.2%). This development is related to the very modest increase in the number of auto-entrepreneurs compared with the second quarter of 2009 (+0.7%), while the increase in the Paris Region remained steady (+15.0%)
